Word of the week: sun

شَمْس

شَمْس is one of the first words worth learning, because you can see it, say it, and spell it with letters from the first book.

ش is a sun letter. The “l” in ال disappears, and the ش is held a little longer. So “the sun” is ash-shams, not al-shams.

Try it on the poster, then find شمس in the first book when you reach the sun-letter page.
