How to write alif

ا

ا is the first letter, and it is also the easiest to write. Put the pen near the top of the line space and pull straight down until you meet the line. Do not add a hook.

Alif does not join to the letter after it. You lift the pen, then start the next letter. That is why كتاب still shows a separate ا.

The tracing sheet has a whole row of alif. Write it ten times, then say “alif” while you look at it.
